Check System Requirements
First make sure that your PC or laptop corresponds to the official system requirements of the game, as this is the most obvious possible issue.
If you do meet the requirements, make sure your DirectX is up to date as well.
Disney Dreamlight Valley minimum system requirements:
OS: Windows 10. Processor: Intel Core i3-540 / AMD Phenom II X4 940. Memory: 6 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT, 512 MB / AMD Radeon HD 6570, 1 GB. DirectX: Version 11.
Disney Dreamlight Valley recommended system requirements:
OS: Windows 10. Processor: Intel Core i5-4690 / AMD Ryzen 3 1300X. Memory: 6 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960, 4 GB / AMD Radeon R9 380, 4 GB. DirectX: Version 11.
Launch the Game as Administrator
Some users may have permission issues on their PCs or laptops, so be sure to run the game as administrator:
Start Steam app. Select “Library” tab. Right-click on the Disney Dreamlight Valley game. Go to “Manage” option. Select “Add Desktop Shortcut” option. Go to your desktop. Right-click on the Disney Dreamlight Valley icon. Select “Run as Administrator” option.
Launch the Game in Windowed Mode
It may be possible to get the game to launch in windows mode rather than fullscreen, if you’re really skirting the minimum requirements. To do this without launching the game, follow these steps:
Start Steam app. Select “Library” tab. Right-click on Disney Dreamlight Valley game. Select “Properties” options. Click on the “General” tab. In the “Set Launch Options” field, type in: -windowed -noborder Save and exit.
Update Your Graphics Card Drivers
Follow these instructions to update Nvidia graphics drivers:
Download the latest Nvidia graphics drivers from the official website. Start the installation process. Restart your PC when finished.
Follow these instructions to update ATI Radeon graphics drivers:
Download the latest ATI Radeon graphics drivers from the official website. Start the installation process. Restart your PC when finished.
Switch to Dedicated GPU (for Laptop Users)
Some laptop users may not realize that they’ve been using the integrated graphics card instead of the dedicated one. Check and swap by:
Press the Start button in Windows. Go to “System Settings” menu. Select “Graphics Settings” option. Click on “Browse” button in “Add an App” field. Browse for Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Now, when you launch the game on your laptop, it will use the dedicated GPU instead.
Verify the Integrity of Game Files
If none of the above methods worked, then it is possible that some of the game files may have been corrupted. A quick verification should deal with it if so:
Start Steam app. Select “Library” tab. Right-click on the Disney Dreamlight Valley game. Select “Properties” from the list. Go to “Local Files” tab. Select “Verify Integrity of Game Files” feature.
Update Your Game
Gameloft, the developer of Disney Dreamlight Valley, continuously releases new patches and fixes, so be sure that your game receives updates as soon as they’re released:
Start Steam app. Select “Library” tab. Right-click on the Disney Dreamlight Valley game. Select “Properties” from the list. Select “Updates” tab. Choose “Always Keep This Game Updated” feature. Save and exit.
Disable Steam Overlay
At times, Steam’s own overlay software may prevent games from launching properly, so be sure to disable it as well:
Start Steam app. Select “Library” tab. Right-click on the Disney Dreamlight Valley game. Select “Properties” from the list. Go to “General” tab. Uncheck “Enable Steam Overlay while in-game” option. Save and exit.
Turn off Antivirus and Firewall
Lastly, temporarily turn off your Windows Defender or any other third-party antivirus, and launch it back up once you’re finished playing:
Press the Start button. Go to “Settings” tab. Select “Update and Security” feature. Go to “Windows Security” tab. Select “Virus and Threat Protection” feature. Go to “Manage Settings” option. Set the real-time protection to OFF.
You may also temporarily disable the Windows firewall:
Press the Start button. Go to “Settings” tab. Select “Update and Security” feature. Go to “Windows Security” tab. Select “Firewall and Windows Protection” feature. Open “Windows Security” settings. Switch the Microsoft Defender Firewall option OFF.
